Just a quick question in relation to tonights episode that I am hoping somebody can answer. Have the "Minyans" that were mentioned tonight, featured in any other Doctor Who stories? They sound familiar.

I believe the Cyberman in question was referring to his 'minions' (subordinates or assistants) rather than the Minyans from Underworld. Laughing

Wester - Outpost Gallifrey has its Canon-Keepers' Guide or there's also the Dr Who Reference Guide, both of which have details on Who continuity.

*sniffles* Crying or Very sad Well, I for one am going to miss Adric, even if nobody else does. Say what you like, I think he was adorable. *ducks for cover*

I was thining this morning - is it just me or do the Cyberman in this ep sound more "human" than usual?

Yes they certainly have more personality than the originals. (If there was an original Cyberman, they changed the design in every story) I didn't much like being able to see the mouth moving. The moving mouths of the Tenth Planet Cybermen were much more creepy IMO.

I would have much prefered to see a return to the 10th Planet style design. Then Star Trek would definately have had no excuse!

Now the final episode is the one with the female trooper who is first seen taken by a Cyberman, then the next she is inside of the TARDIS and then she disappears afterwards.

In the commentary Peter Davison said that letters were written pointed out that letters were written complaining about guns being fired in the TARDIS. They say that this could not happen because the TARDIS was in a temporal state of grace (as established back in Hand of Fear).
As a result of this, it actually gets a brief explanation five episodes later in the opening episode of Arc of Infinity.

Fortunately there was no voiceover for the silent end credits but unfortuantely at my place my mother turned on the radio just a few minutes before the episode ended which sort of ruin the moment.

For those who don't have the DVD, it has a specially made claymation short "Episode 5" which tells us what happens to Adric shortly after Part 4.

Among those interviewed for the documentary on the DVD Putting the Shock Into Earthshock were new series writers Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat and was recorded even before the new series was announced.

CGI Effects were included on the DVD as an option to replace the original effects for the guns plus when the freighter explodes.
I only found the effect for the freighter explosion to be the only thing impressive since it is quite a waste of time just seeing the alternative gun effects for few moments at a time. I mean they only made up a relatively small part of the entire serial.

Of course just as I am posting this found out about Janet Fielding returning as Tegan for Big Finish.

Thanks Tom - according to my research the story - Revenge of the Cybermen - occurs in the 30th Century, which is about 500 years AFTER Earthshock. So the criticism about how could the CyberLeader know is a valid one.

Did anyone else notice the person standing in shot when the troopers are just about to sneak on to the bridge? Its on the right of the screen up the back and looks like someone holding a bunch of papers. THen the screen pans and comes back and same person is still there and the papers have moved. Even on the tiny budget Dr Who had, I would of assumed that would of been brushed out or changed in some way.

and so not a fan of those Cyber boots shots.. yeech
