The Black Guardian trilogy has just finished showing on the classic reruns and the White Guardian indicated to the Doctor of another encounter with the Black Guardian even though they weren't seen in the classic series again. This is most probably because sadly Valentine Dyall, the Black Guardian had died in 1985 and Cyril Luckham, the White Guardian in 1989.

However it has been established the Guardians can change their appearances in any shape or form which could allow new actors into the roles.

So should the Guardians return in the new series? My answer is yes after all the question of people facing the light and the dark is still relevant today as it was back then.

I like the idea of the Guardians of Light and Dark and that sort of thing, so I wouldn't mind seeing them back in action. However, any story featuring the Guardians is bound to have the same conclusion (Black is defeated but not destroyed since there needs to be a balance blah blah blah), so it might stifle the creativity of the story.
I'm undecided on this one - yes if the production team can find a good use for them, but no because of the inherent sameness of any Guardian story.

Yeah Im not so sure I like that concept again. I think the end result/story would be the same so as a character story/arc I think it should only ever be once and not again.

If not you would have to shake it up by perhaps one guardian 'dying' and maybe having the Doctor find a replacement .. ooh.. it would be cool if the Black Guardian was destroyed and the Doctor HAD to find someone nasty enough to replace him. Put that on the CV 'Made new Black Guardian'

if they ever decide to bring back Gallifrey there might be room for a Guardian or three in the arc...

I say why not. They are part of the traditional Whoniverse, so lets see them back.

I agree. Their stories were quite good, and as the white gardian said, they must always exist, so I can't see a reason not to.
