What do people make of this (Season 20) 1983 story written by Terence Dudley?

This is the analysis from the official BBC website (WARNING! SPOILERS): http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/episodeguide/kingsdemons/analysis.shtml

I think this is the best of the Davison two parters, but that's not saying a lot since I don't like any of them much.

Fair rating from me.

For some reason image of this story has been in my ahead for quite a long while now.

As we are waiting for it on the ABC which featured King John I thought I might mention that I just bought the CD of The Crusade which featured John's predecessor on the throne Richard the Lionheart.

I gave it 'Fair'. It's not a total clunker, but neither is it particularly special. A bit of a dull way to end Season 20.

I really enjoyed this one.

Once again I'm a sucker for historical settings.

Season 20 was originally meant to end with the Dalek story that ultimately became Resurrection of the Daleks. Industrial action at the time meant that production of the serials took longer than expected while the Dalek story was shifted out of the season altogether.

I dont mind this story. Great to see the Master back, although the disguise was a bit lame - couldnt the Doctor see that the 'Frenchman' looked too much like the Master?

My thoughts exactly.

Hugh is infuriating. The Doctor saves his life but shows no gratitude to him.

In the credits the Technical Manager is credited to Tony Troughton, any relation to Patrick?

Yes, T.S - I understand the concept of being 'dishonoured', but if that had of been me - I would have been thankful.

Does anyone know if the events of the 4th March date is factual. Would be keen to know. anyone notice no-one said anything about Tegan showing her legs?

As well as the Master having a (bad) disguise and an anagram surname (Sir Gilles Estram) he was billed in the Radio Times as being played by James Stoker - an anagram of 'Master's Joke', to prevent his return from being noticed.

I gave this a 'fair', the plot is quite silly, Anthony Ainley has a bad french accent and Tegan and Turlough don't do anything at all. Although it's quite fun to watch.

The whole Davidson era is, anyone know what the next few stories will be ...when does he regenerate into the sixth doc? I'm not a big fan of him either but t it's worth the Peri factor Smile

Let's move on to the seventh doc, I haven't seen his work yet and would like to but probably due to the amount of stories each Doc has it will most likely be the New Year and then the ABC will most likely stop the show for the new one new again?

I'm not sure if Doc #7 has been released on DVD yet? ....hope #10 is a much better actor then #9 was, he overacted way too much!

my 5c worth...

Including The Five Doctors starting tonight, there are seven more stories of Peter Davison or six depending what's happening with Resurrection of the Daleks which means a total of 26 or 22 episodes of him left.

Sylvester McCoy, the Seventh Doctor has been released on DVD in Remembrance of the Daleks, Ghost Light & Curse of Fenric.

Now back to The King's Demons I would have preferred if Hugh had been the one killed instead of Geoffrey.
We finally see Kamelion voiced by Gerald Flood who was also doubling as the King.

Despite seeing Kamelion leave with the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough we don't see him again until Planet of Fire although he had been intended to be seen briefly in The Awakening but his scene got cut due to time constraints. This was because Mike Power the programmer was killed in a boating accident and did not leave sufficient notes for anyone to work on. Peter Davison in his commentary on Caves of Androzani mentioned the trouble of getting Kamelion to work and that was much easier just getting someone to dress up as a robot.

I really like Turlough's line to the Master: "I just had quite enough of you whoever you are."

Isla Blair's (Isabella) subsequent roles included being a Conservative MP in the Final Cut mini-series the final in the House of Cards trilogy which was actually the first thing that I saw her in.

I had to laugh when Tegan was referred to as the Doctors squire. So thats why did not care she/he was showing her/his legs.

Good, I'm looking forward to his work ...I haven't seen it before and hope the ABC holds their end up? Maybe get the dvd's too, I took a quick look in the Online Shop area and it mentions that orders take up 8 weeks Sad Can members get discounts from the ABC shop or elsewhere?

thanks

Well as a DWCA member you can get 10% discount on Doctor Who products at Galaxy and if you a member of the ABC Rewards program you get a $20 voucher each time you reach the threshold of $300 in purchases at the ABC Shop.

Of course one possible reason why this story is so unpopular is that the Master was made out to look like the good guy to those idiots in the castle while the Doctor made to look like the bad guy.
