What's your favourite story from the 1976 series?

And here's a great year in Who - even the weaker stories are still pretty good1

I picked The Talons of Weng-Chaing, probably the obvious choice.

Although I wanted to vote for an SJS story - she's my favourite companion - the two this season weren't good enough. I've gone for Robots of Death, which I prefer to Talons mostly because I lean towards the sci-fi elements rather than the historical. Which is not to say the historical stories aren't good, just that I prefer sci-fi.

Robots is a very chilling story, and beautifully designed. The robots look great and are quite sinister. The plot is a little convoluted, but all works out well in the end. Leela is quite entertaining too, though that often applies to this 'noble savage' in a civilised world. She's really good value in Talons as well.

And I thought the Season 13 poll was tough! My vote could easily go to any of these stories, but in the end it has to be Talons. Brilliant stuff.

I'm going with The Hand Of Fear because Sarah gets some nice character moments. but "best" might be praising it too highly...

not my favourite period of Doctor Who

How strange that my least favourite incarnation of the Doctor stars in my personal all-time favourite story.

Love the period. Explains why Unquiet Dead is my fav from the new series.

Bob Holmes at his very best! (and most rushed)

My instincts were screaming at me "The Deadly Assassin", but I thought about it some, and realised that I remember The Face of Evil very fondly - strange that it's the story that introduced one of my least favourite companions.

Robots of Death. I first saw this in the omnibus version and remembered that how I fell in love with Pam Salem (which I still am). It happened to be the first DVD I bought back in 2002 after I had a very unpleasant year in 2001. When Robots of Death was shown on the ABC I was thinking how Megan Gale would be perfect for Pam's part if the serial was ever remade.

Also quite enjoyed Deadly Assassin as well as certain moments of Talons.

Uh yeah, I voted and forgot to post. I was getting around to it...

I actually voted the Face of Evil. This is Leela in her prime here (not that I have anything against her, I just prefer her here) and I like the split personality computer concept over the more obvious plots of Talons and Robots (but I love all these stories). And from memory this is the first time we see the Doctor's actions take a terrible turn. Not as terrible as some of his future actions but... it was a start.

Also when I first watched this I didn't know anything about Leela, and thus her new (at the time) angle for a companion fascinated me, although this was dissipating towards the end of Talons and died completely during the next season...
