Over the years, Doctor Who has produced a number of special stories - some dramatic extensions of the series, other for charity, and even some special episodes of other stories.
The criteria used is that it has to be Doctor Who or an extension of it, not a comedy sketch in another program; it has to be an extension of the series and/or feature members of the cast in their regular roles; and it has to have been broadcast on BBC television. (Radio webcast stories are not included.)
The stories are:
K9 and Company: a Christmas special, allegedly the pilot episode of a proposed spin-off series, featuring popular companions Sarah Jane Smith and K9. (1981)
The Five Doctors: the 20th anniversary special. (1983)
A Fix with Sontarans: Colin Baker and Janet Fielding star in this special episode of Jim'll Fix It. (1984)
Search Out Space: Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred return as the Doctor and Ace, with K9 along for the ride in a special episode of Search Out Science. (1990)
Dimensions in Time: Doctors and companions galore in this Children in Need special charity fund-raiser. (1993)
Doctor Who: The Movie: Intended as the pilot for a new American-produced continuation of the series, Paul McGann makes his first and so far only TV appearance as the Doctor. (1996)
The Curse of Fatal Death: The Doctor uses up his remaining regenerations in this charity fund-raiser for Comic Relief with a great cast: Rowan Atkinson, Julia Sawalha, Hugh Grant, Joanna Lumley, Richard E. Grant, Jim Broadbent, and Jonathan Pryce. |

| I picked Doctor Who as it introduced a great actor in the lead role and made an brave (though misguided) attempt to move teh series forward into the 90s. If only the American TV studio execs had been kept further at bay, it might have been a good thing. |

| The Movie. Paul McGann threw himself into the role and created a huge fan base for himself (as the Doctor) with just over 60 minutes screen time. |
