What do people make of this (Season 21) 1984 story written by Peter Grimwade?

A very good from me. I really love the whole feel to this one, even though Sarn & Lanzarote just happen to look exactly the same!

So sad Kamelion couldn't have been more utilized in the series. The empathic link with the Master was a facinating idea in both this story and The Kings Demons.

Are there any books that feature Kamelion?

yes Meglos - it has been mentioned before and can certainly be mentioned again. Peri is certainly a 'talented' companion.

Only heard a few months back about the fact she was faking the accent all along.

I told my brother in law that this would be as close to the Dr Boobs show as it gets, and he watched it!

I got caught with the double episodes, I like to flick and see the weather just as the end credits go at the 6pm episode.

I think everyone should extend a warm hand of welcome to Peri and as I have said before, Peter Grimwade should be congratulated for the imaginitive way she was introduced!

Kamelion definitely makes an appearance in Imperial Moon. It's been a long time since I read it but I remember it being a pretty good story.

Of the listed novels, Kamelion has a part to play in The Crystal Bucephalus and Imperial Moon. I don't think he even rates a mention in the other three.

I'm going to be bold and give Planet of Fire an 'Excellent' rating. I'm not exactly sure why, but everything seemed to click together - the great location work, the whole Kamelion/Master business, and some top performances from the whole cast (bar a few very minor characters). I also thought the imminent volcanic eruption was a good way to foreshadow Peter Davison's impending departure from the show.

There's not much wrong with this one, and if it weren't for The Caves of Androzani, PoF would be my pick of the season.

I thought it was very good! I really like Peri as a companion, and not just becasue of her... assets. I reckon the acting in this was brillaint, and the best we have seen this Master so far! I'm loveing this two eps a night thing too, its just great! Very Happy

With Tegan having left in the unscreened Resurrection of the Daleks, Turlough leaves at the end of Planet of Fire. Planet of Fire is the second of what I personally call the departures trilogy since Peter Davison will follow suit in Cave of Androzani.

My memory of Planet of Fire was that it was a very relaxing story following the traumatic atmosphere of Resurrection. Watching Planet of Fire again I really enjoyed it.

Actually knew about the Master's apparent demise in this story even before seeing it as I watched The Colin Baker Years beforehand which included an interview of him shortly after being announced as the Doctor that he was disappointed that the Master got killed in that episode.

Peter Wyngarde was pretty good as Timanov and an Australian I might add. I have to say I not had the pleasure yet of seeing him in his most famous role as Jason King in the Department S & Jason King TV shows.

Planet of Fire marked the swansong of Peter Grimwade and director Fiona Cumming. Cumming was originally assigned Caves of Androzani and Graeme Harper, about to make his directorial debut, assigned to Planet of Fire before they switched serials. I talked more about the implication of this switch when Caves gets shown.

Maintaining continuity with the TV series I just finished the Fifth Doctor/Peri novel Warmonger by former script editor Terrance Dicks and it is not as bad as everyone says it is. Uncle Terrance dedicates the book to his successor as script editor Robert Holmes who of course will make a spectacular return to the ABC screenings with Caves.

That's odd, because on the DVD commentaries I've heard, she sounds at least a little bit aussie - albeit, an aussie who has been living in the UK for a long time.

Actually I will have to agree with the others - Janet Fielding certainly had an Australian background.
