I loved this one as a kid but on second viewing I found it pretty disappointing.

While it has some lovely moments others are completely daft. For instance, the plan to flush out the Master by flooding the TARDIS and the Master's broadcast to the universe are simply ludicrous.

The acting, apart from Tom and the Monitor, is also pretty ordinary. There were already signs that three companions was one or two too many!
Also Chris Bidmead's pseudo-science babble, in my opinion, makes Douglas Adams look restrained!

I found the ending on the radio telescope a little rushed and difficult to follow too (but maybe I am a little daft! Smile )

The regeneration scene was touching (even though I wasn't sure what the Doctor was exactly doing breaking the cable!) but overall I think Tom deserved a better swansong!

YEah, I thought it was good but a little disapointing due to it beings Toms last ep and, well, he's passing wasn't that dramatic.

I gave Logopolis a "Very Good' rating - but only just. For some reason we spend an episode and a half faffing about on Earth before the action actually goes to the titular planet. We also have the introduction of Tegan, whose cries of "the Tah-dus!!" and "Doctah!!" got annoying after a while. Even though I'm surrounded by Australian accents everyday I still find Janet Fielding's to be really abrasive, especially when compared to Nyssa's measured British accent.

But despite these problems, there are some aspects that more than compensate. Tom Baker is superb in his final performance as the Doctor, and John Fraser is also excellent as the Monitor. The general spit-shine of Season 18 is also a plus point. But the best thing about this episode has to be the Fourth Doctor's death and regeneration. How fitting that after he has saved the universe, the last thing we see him do is look up and smile at his companions. Very moving.

All in all, a fitting end to Tom Baker's tenure as the Doctor.

Peter Grimwade directs Logopolis after having previously done Full Circle earlier in the season. He is in fact the only person to direct a second serial for the season as Grimwade and the season's five other directors made their directorial debut on the series. Of the six only he and Peter Moffatt (State of Decay) went on to direct on the series post-Tom although Terence Dudley (Meglos) wrote three stories for Peter Davison. Grimwade has also written three stories for Davison as well.

Correction: Earlier I said that Peter Moffatt and Peter Grimwade were the only season 18 directors to go on directing for the series post-Tom. I have been corrected last night with the end of Four To Doomsday Part 1 as I saw The Keeper of Traken's John Black's name in the credits.

Just as I finished with Douglas Adams's Starship Titantic - A Novel by Terry Jones, read the interview with Sarah Sutton originally published in April 1998 in the SFX Doctor Who Special. Among the things she said was that she voted in the election in the UK in 1997 and is outraged on people who don't vote. She said that women fought for the right to vote and yet they don't make good use of it and that there are many places in which people don't get to vote at all. The interview ends as she was asked how do Daleks climb stairs in which she replied, "They jump."

I have to disagree, I think he overacted the role too much and the whining like a little girl was awful!

As Bob Carr officially left as NSW Premier yesterday, Tom begins his final adventure as the Doctor.

Almost two years ago, I made that comment of Bob Carr leaving office as NSW Premier on the same day as Logopolis Part 1, Tom's last story was shown on the ABC.

Currently I am watching Logopolis on DVD and Steve Bracks left office as Victorian Premier yesterday.

Once again my viewing of Logopolis coincides with the departure of a Premier in the real world.
