While The Ribos Operation is probably the best story of this season, I decided to vote for my favourite supporting character, Professor Amelia Rumford, and The Stone of Blood. I'll just ignore large parts of the last two episodes...

I love the setting of Androids of Tara very much. I also love the humour in this one. A well-balanced measure of slapstick and dry wit.

Paper Mache monster? What paper mache monster??? Smile

Yet another season I just can't remember! I'm quite surprised to find that Tom Baker's tenure has proven immemorable for me. The only story I can remember in any detail here is The Stones of Blood.

I'm going to have to reassess my opinions of Leela and Romana I - if I can't remember the seasons they appeared in (my memory of the next season, with Romana II, is much clearer), then that might be why I'm underwhelmed by the characters. Which of their serials are available on DVD? Looks like they're next on my list. Smile

Well I love The Androids of Tara. In fact Part 3 was aired on December 9 1978 exactly one year before I was born. (The other episode that was screened on December 9 was The Ice Warriors Episode 5 in 1967 although I did not vote for that story for season 5.) How approriate for me that it features Tom and the gorgeous Mary Tamm.

Also Tom's commentary in the R1 releases of Ribos Operation, Androids of Tara & Power of Kroll is something to listen for if you have a multi-zone player.

I went for The Ribos Operation. I do like The Stones of Blood and Androids of Tara, but Ribos wins me over with the wonderfully wintry setting, and who could forget Garron and Unstoffe?

The Pirate planet was the first video that my parents bought for me aged 8.
Perhaps for that reason I really like it. The captain is good value

The Pirate Planet. It's the first Key to Time story that uses the segment in a strange way (the planet idea) which would largely be copied throughout the rest of the season. The captain is awesome, and manages to make really stupid lines work, as the actor (pardon me for forgetting his name) is very good in the part. He manages to upstage Tom throughout this story, which is what makes a good story in my opinion. Points are deducted for the pointless psychic people though. And anyway, it was written by Douglas Adams. Is this bias? Yes, but then so is the question.

Ribos Operation - another awesome story. Stones of Blood - lost it towards the end. Power of Kroll - especially considering it comes from Bob Holmes... a waste. Androids of Tara - another fave in this season, although the overload of Mary Tamm (no offence to her...) and the real lack of having anything to do with the segment harms this story. And finally, Armageddon Factor - introduces one of my favourite companions (although she wasn't Romana in this story) but is also amazingly crap. A terrible ending to a largely enjoyable season.

I really like the Armageddon Factor for some reason but definetly since Tom swears at K9 due to his uselessness.
However I thought that Kroll was a bit weak. Although K9 wasn't in it which was good.
