In 2008 the Doctor will turn 45 and therefore it will be an ideal time to release the often talked about but haven't even started yet movie to tie in with the TV series assuming it gets a fourth and a fifth season.
The X-Files had a tie-in movie between its fifth and sixth seasons therefore it would not be implausible for Doctor Who to do the same thing.
So would their be a movie in 2008?

movies of tv shows are notoriously difficult beasts...one has to remember that only Batman (1960s version) and X-Files had feature films made during their on air run (all others came after)
Also these were series with HUGE followings at the time, this isnt to say that Doctor Who isnt popular, just that film investments, need assurances that a large paying audience will see it. Hence why many mooted tv to film projects are being shelved in favour of slightly cheeper direct to dvd movies which can be marketed at fans rather than trying to bring in the general public (both 24 and Stargate are in this catergory).
I dont think that a WHO movie is impossible, just unlikely, plus I think it might be unwarranted, really unless you get to "mega budget" territory what more do you really want from WHO that the new series hasn't given us?
Just my humble opinion. |

| I agree totally with dunmall. I used to think there would be nothing better than a film version of Who until the new series came along. Now, every improvement on the original series has been done to perfection in the new series. As long as the series survives under the Tenant regeneration, that will be more than enough for me. |

The only thing I can see that would be good about a movie would be it would give wider advertising of the TV series. Movies only seem to get and be noticed for a month or two and then they die a painful death. The seem to only be the flavour of the month, then a new one comes along.
I'd much rather see the money from a movie be spent on the TV series and the series given more episodes. I'd be happier if we got another 26 years of Doctor Who on TV rather then a movie.

Fans of Star Trek got a series of movies, and a resurrected series (actually, it was resurrected four times) - and the movie series continued! If Doctor Who were to get that sort of spread, we'd be spoilt to bursting point. Just imagine, say, a TV series of the Gallifrey audios, or around the time of the Kaled-Thal war on Skaro, etc - neither of which are too far removed from how Star Trek (and Buffy, for that matter) diversified. Who Trek: Deep Time Nine.
But, after all that, I agree with Fred. Just keep pumping the cash into the current series and let it last - even lasting just half as long as the original would be quite something.
Could we survive another movie in the style of the 60s Peter Cushing movies? |

Yeah that sounds great now but all of the star trek revival series' are wrose than the last. And the few Star trek movies I have seen are pretty bad for movies anyway and only average Star trek stories.
And besides how could you have Doctor Who without the Doctor? |

I don't know which forum your talking about so I'll just have to say that DS9 was THE worst Star Trek ever! |

I'd like a Movie about the Time War.
Other than that i see no reason to do a feature film, i reckon those Star Trek film aren't any good at all!
If you want to celebrate an anniversary i say give us another 5 Doctors type thing. |

For the 40th Anniversary they resurrected the series, i think that was good enough
Although they had to make the profound mistake of giving it to Russel T |

Aw that's a bit harsh, Russel is trying, he really is!
Anyway...:
In 2008, not only is it the 45th Anniversary, I believe it will be the year with the 200th Story. So I think and hope they will concentrate on the 200th and make it the best story ever!
But yes I want a movie or something to clear up the time war. |

if the Time War is ever to be officially "cleared up" I'd prefer it to happen in book form - any attempt at a movie is going to be compromised by the BBC going for maximum Box Office success. I'd much rather see a novel (or series of novels) written in conjunction with RTD - the existing EDA/PDA pool of authors easily includes the talent needed for the task.

| Id rather see it cleared up in a movie. When Im reading a book I tend to forget stuff and by the end struggle to remember the whole picture. But then DW doesnt really fit movies IMO. It should be explained gradually with little tidbits throughout the series. |

I think that would be the best idea. I would like to see the events of the Time War expanded upon, however it would not be necessary to explain every little thing about it. A general overview would suffice. |
