Schmidt Happens:
Even though 7 skipped showing the previous episode Hired Guns, it is good to see Boston Legal back on 7. Schmidt Happens (quite a good wordplay) sees Candace Bergen making her debut on the series as one of firm's founding partner Shirley Schmidt and I have to say she is quite good at it.
It was good to see Monica Potter, Rhona Mitra and Lake Bell again even though Rhona is shown very briefly here. Two hours before Schmidt Happens began saw Lake as the lead in the series premiere of Surface on 10. This could only mean that she is about to leave Boston Legal sometime very soon.
From TV.com, Candace Bergen had worked with two of her Boston Legal co-stars before in feature films. She worked with Rhona in Sweet Home Alabama, although I don't remember seeing Rhona in that movie. Then again this was before I got to know Rhona on The Practice.
Anyone with a sharp memory in recent times would of course know that Candace had worked with William Shatner in Miss Congeniality.
Yet again, Leslie Jordan appears in this David E. Kelley show after having a recurring role in Boston Public and a guest spot on Ally McBeal. Despite the tendancy with the Kelley shows to have a crossover with each other, Leslie Jordan does not reprise his character of Benjamin Harris from Boston Public, instead playing the brand new character of Bernard Ferrion.
However like his previous characters, Bernard Ferrion is a nervous and awkward character that only Leslie Jordan could play, as we see Bernard being terrified that he accidentally killed his mother. |

From Whence We Came:
This episode came on an hour after seeing Lake Bell in her lead role on Surface on 10, as Lake makes her farewell to Boston Legal as Sally. It is sad to see her go but I guess I will be seeing her on the Surface.
Sam Anderson who was a senior figure at Wolfram & Hart in Angel is back in familiar territory here but instead of being a lawyer he is a defendant. He is the school superintendent who was sued by two scientists whom he fired for refusing to teach creationism which he ultimately saw her. Quite like it when Shirley says in her closing argument in this case that looking at the President that she is convinced that they all came from monkeys.
Alan under Tara's table took me completely by surprise upon finding out that Bernard has committed another silly murder. Amusing that Bernard mentioned helping the little man and that he is little.
Upon looking at Rhona Mitra in this episode I suddenly thought that she looks a bit like Megan Gale.
Frank Birney guest stars here as Judge William Howe after playing Judge Warren West in several episodes of The Practice. Why not just play the same judge?
Betty White on the other hand is definitely someone who reprises her character on The Practice as she returns as Catherine Piper in her Boston Legal debut. Considering the fact that she tried to sabotage his case on The Practice it will be interesting to see how Catherine gets along with Alan now that she is working for him. |

It Girls and Beyond:
It begins with Brad saying how he disapproves of homosexuality and yet is attracted to his lesbian client. Funny he can't say the word "lesbian" which prompted Alan to get everyone to say the word together.
Really didn't expect the case of one lesbian against her former lover, Brad's client to be a scam that they cooked up together.
Quite fun how in Denny's and Alan's case they had a little argument on who should present the closing argument before deciding to split it between them. Quite moving how Denny admitted in court how he is close to Alzheimer's.
Loved that little scene between Shirley and Catherine with Shirley saying that she doesn't know who she is but she loves her already. |

It was a confusing day the last time I posted here that I forgot to mention Rene in the opening credits.
Recently I saw Return to the Batcave which had a cameo by Betty White. |

Til We Meat Again:
Clever title as red meat has been banned for fear of mad cow disease, hence Shirley and Denny representing a man whose steakhouse is being put out of business as a result of it.
Loved it when Denny says that "vegetarians are Communists."
Very funny that Alan mouths "Crane, Poole and Schmidt" each time Paul says it much to Paul's irritation.
Also funny that Alan says he was going to appeal his own acquittal for starting a brawl in a bar.
According to TV.com this episode was going to have a third plotline:
"A third storyline was completely cut from this episode. The plot of it was that Schmidt brought in an associate (Rick Yune as Troi Ran) who refers to himself as "Sexy Man" and Lori and Brad serve as second chair for him. Along with that story was that Lori had an attraction for Troi (whether they had a sexual encounter with eachother is unknown). So it is possible that Rick Yune as well as Jason Blicker (as Attorney Timothy Simms) and Kitana Baker (as Beautiful Woman) were part of that storyline and the reason they were credited as part of the guest cast list before the episode aired." |

This episode was finally shown on December 27, most probably because the episode started at a Christmas party.
Tortured Souls:
Freddie Prinze Jr returns as Donny Crane. As with his previous appearance in Catch and Release he really does not impress me at all. I hope this is the last time we see him.
What really impressive about this episode is Alan to his distate having to deal with a case in which the client is a cop on trial for torture and end up having to deliver the closing argument. It is not helped that he gets a visit from Bernard who gets befriended by Catherine. |

| After showing Let Sales Ring featuring Chi McBride as an unnamed high school principal but who is obviously meant to be Steven Harper from Boston Public, Boston Legal will return in March. |

Madds at Buffy Down Under posted this message that looks confusing:
Channel 7 can go 2 Ways with Boston Legal. Try and follow, it is hard to explain.
1. 22 Episodes were made for Season 1. However only 17 Episodes made it to air & the Final 5 were held over until the current American Ratings Season where they aired & then ABC went straight into Season 2.
So the Last Episode Last Season was Episode 17 & the 1st Episode back should have been Episode 18 BUT it was Episode 19. Episode 18 (Race Ipsa) was never screened & parts of the Episode were cut out & merged into Episode 19. They then went ahead and aired that merged Episode 19, as well as Episode 20, 21 & 22. Then ABC did it AGAIN. They did not show Episode 1 of Season 2, but rather merged Episode 1 into Episode 2, so the Official Episode that screened was Episode 2. Episode 1 will not be shown. They have now continued showing it as normal.
Channel 7 may decide to follow this pattern and show the merged Episodes & cut Episodes & leave out the 2 Episodes as America did.
2. Channel 7 may show all the Episodes in full & it will play very unlike the American order.
Currently Channel 7 have played 16 Episodes. So apart from 1 Episode, they have aired all the Episodes in full as normal. The only funny thing Seven did was wait till Christmas to air the Christmas Episode. That would be normally be ok, but it looked funny that Lake Bell's character was fired & left the show 2 Weeks earlier only to pop up again @ Christmas.

Death Be Not Proud:
It's funny that Kerry Washington (Chelina) gets the "Special Guest Star" credit while guest star Shelley Long gets only the "And" credit under the bland "Guest Starring" label.
Ooh Lori finally had it with Denny with her stating that she will make an official complaint about him. Things are not looking any better with Denny when it appeared he may have bribed Judge Clark Brown in the case against Miriam Watson (Long). Not very surprised when Miriam revealed that she had a relationship with Denny.
Ooh is something going on between Alan and Chelina?
I thought Alan delivered a good argument for the death row inmate Zeke Borns but to no avail.
The final scene of Zeke undergoing execution was emotionally powerful.
Yet another program to take place in a prison cell since I am also watching Prison Break which is also about a death row inmate while the House season 2 opener which I saw on the free preview DVD begins at a prison which too is about a death row inmate. |

| A couple of hours before I saw William Shatner and Rene Auberjonois on that episode of Boston Legal that night I saw another former Star Trek star Jeri Ryan in The O.C. on 10. |

The Black Widow:
Monica Potter and Rhona Mitra have been removed from the regular credits and get the "Special Appearance By" credit and although Monica does appear she has no lines apparently because it was a holdover from season 1 as this began season 2. Regardless I am not happy about this as I love both Monica and Rhona.
William Shatner is reunited with his former TJ Hooker co-star Heather Locklear. Heather of course since their TJ Hooker days had become well known as Amanda in Melrose Place. Melrose Place was the spinoff of Beverly Hills 90210 and this episode of Boston Legal also features James Eckhouse who was a regular in 90210 as Jim Walsh.
Julie Bowen (Denise), Justin Mentell (Garrett) and Ryan Michelle Bathe (Sara) join the regular cast but have no interaction with the first season cast because reading from TV.com this episode was filmed before they join the show.
When I read TV WEEK description of next week's episode yesterday I was quite baffled to see Denise's name wondering who she was. I have to say I quite Denise.
Wonder how Garrett manage to include Bill Clinton denying having sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky which was definitely not relevant to their case at all.
Had a laugh when the mute cello player played the Jaws theme just as Shirley was about to question her in court. Very funny indeed. |

| I forgot to mention the appearance of Anthony Heald as Judge Harvey Cooper. He had previously appeared as a regular on Boston Public as Vice Principal Scott Guber. He is quite good as Judge Cooper. Guber, Cooper, gee that rhymes. |
