Extinction:
Wow what an impressive teaser sequence.
Jesse Metcalfe excels as the villain, Van McNulty. He of course is now John in Desperate Housewives and one of his co-stars is former Lois Lane from Lois and Clark, Teri Hatcher. This is probably the closest we ever get of a Lois and Clark star appearing on Smallville since no regulars from
that series has yet to appear on Smallville.
Lionel has all his bases covered by threatening Chloe with her father's job when she decided she wanted out on their deal.
I thought Lana was finally going to know about Clark's powers when he appeared unharmed after being shot at by Van in front of her. Only for it to turn out that he was wearing lead.
I wonder if Lana is ever going to find out about Clark's powers.
Lex gives his first history lesson (by mentioning Churchill) in a long time.

Slumber:
Wow this episode really blew away.
I knew that it was a dream at first because there was no way that any of it could be real (especially the skinny dipping scene).
This episode was gripping all the way through.

TV WEEK has given the next episode in third place in its highlight of the day while Who Weekly has given it four stars.

The one after that is fourth place in TV WEEK's highlight of the day on 15/1.

Forgot to mention that Smallville will debut on FOX at Monday 17 January 8:30pm.

Erica Durance soon to be seen as Lois Lane has been is included by TV WEEK as one person to look out for this year.

Perry:
Clark meets his future boss and editor of the Daily Planet Perry White as played by Michael McKean. In fact this is not the first time that McKean had played Perry White - from TV.com:
"This is not McKean's first time adopting the character of Perry White--he played the role in an SNL sketch "The Nightstalker" which aired on March 18, 1995."
Here, years before he became editor of the Daily Planet he hosts a TV program called X-Styles a blatant parody on The X-Files.
As a result of the solar flares, Clark's powers goes haywire which meant. Not a good time as Perry sees him unwillingly used it. Of course the reason why Perry would not suspect Clark to be Superman in the future is because Clark was unable to use his powers to save both himself and Perry from falling into the water.
Sheriff Adams says to Perry, "Don't call me chief". Perhaps that is why Perry does not like Jimmy calling him chief.
To be honest seeing McKean as Perry makes me really miss Lane Smith when he played the character in Lois and Clark.

Smallville on January 19 gets 3 stars from Who Weekly.

Relic:
What a lovely episode this turned out to be as we find out that Jor-El (also played by Tom Welling) was in Smallville a couple of decades before Clark's rival and fell in love with Lana's great-aunt Louise (also played by Kristin Kreuk). Quite sad that Louise was accidentally killed.
Shocking that Lex's grandfather and Lionel's father Lachlan was a petty criminal and tried to kill Jor-El.
William B Davis does not seem to escape from his Cancer Man image as we find out his character here Mayor Tate was responsible for Louise's death.
Upon seeing Jor-El meeting Jonathan's parents I immediately knew that it was no accident that Jonathan and Martha eventually finding Clark.
The episode was directed by former Whedonverse director Marita Grabiak. One of her other jobs was the Wonderfalls episode Karma Chameleon which coincidentally was shown the day before on 9.

On the Biography Channel yesterday saw a documentary on Christopher Reeve. The narrator briefly mentioned that he had appeared on Smallville but did not mention that it was related to Superman. I mean I would have expected the narrator to say something like "He even return to the Superman legend by appearing in Smallville."

Shattered:
Morgan Edge is back but this time underwent plastic surgery to become Patrick Bergin (perhaps well known for his role as Julia Roberts' husband in Sleeping With the Enemy). The production team probably couldn't afford to get Rutger Hauer.
It was gripping as we wonder whether Lex is halluciating the experience he is going through. Hopefully Lex accepts seeing Clark smashing Edge's car with his body as a halluciation.
Ouch upon seeing the horse hitting Lana and the conversation she has with Clark afterwards.
Very good but one thing that does annoy me is the credits which has "Written by Kenneth Biller" for one moment then "Directed by Kenneth Biller" the next. Why not just put "Written and Directed by Kenneth Biller" instead.

Jesse Metcalfe is back for the next episode.

Meanwhile the episode to be shown on 2/2 is in fourth place in TV WEEK's highlight of the day.

Asylum:
It would seem that three of Clark's enemies, Eric Summers, Ian Randall and Van McNulty all in the same asylum that Lex is in, are united together to get their revenge on Clark. Therefore I was surprised how quickly Van gets killed off.
Even though Lex is destined to be very terrible, I can't help but sympathised with him as he goes through an operation that would make him a vegetable. Lionel is so determine for him to be in that state that Dr Claire Foster gets killed off for deciding to side with Clark to save Lex from the operation.
Clark and Lex are destined to be great enemies so it is somehow a cruel twist of fate when Lex is temporaily saved from the operation when Clark's powers were temporarily transferred to Eric.
Very sad to see Lana giving Clark the cold shoulder at her welcome back party.

This episode guest stars Ian Somerhalder from Lost and Jesse Metcalfe from Desperate Housewives. Desperate Housewives and Lost are now the star shows for 7. I bet you if anyone at 7 had known about this Smallville episode, they would have gotten Smallville themselves in order to promote Ian and Jesse's presence in this particular episode.

I love how the voiceover for the preview for the next episode said this about Chloe as "irritating Little Miss Perfect". From the preview found out that it will be a double episode from 6:30pm on Sunday 29 January.

In a funny coincidence just as Lex was in a mental hospital in Asylum, earlier in the day I saw John Glover in the John Carpenter movie In The Mouth of Madness where he played the administrator of.....a mental hospital. That was not the only Smallville link to John Carpenter that occurred yesterday, during the ad breaks on Asylum, the trailer for The Fog was shown. The Fog features Ian Somerhalder's Lost co-star Maggie Grace and stars Tom Welling. The Fog is a remake of the John Carpenter film.

Whisper:
Did not occur me that Clark's superhearing wasn't explored before until seeing this episode.
Another first is that we get to see Clark wearing glasses. (Even though he does not wear them in the next episode.)
Whether intentional or not, having Clark adjust to his blindness made him look like Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil).
Nathan was very stupid to give himself away upon seeing Clark as he got his sight back.
A very sad last scene as Lana finally tells Clark about Adam.

Delete:
With Chloe's column dropped at the Daily Planet she decides to use a pseudonym for a story. The pseudonym is the name of her cousin who happens to be - Lois Lane. The very first mention of Lois in the series. Unfortunately this moment was ruined by my very noisy niece.
Clark finally meets Adam and it is really an uncomfortable sight.
Martha's email address is "CNH320@instamail.org." From TV.com: ""CNH320" was the license plate number of the General Lee, the car driven by Bo (John Schneider) and Luke on The Dukes of Hazzard."
The episode ends with things looking gloomy as Lex sees Dr Garner (Martin Cummins) to help him get seven weeks of his life back.

The trailer for The Fog starring Tom Welling and Ian Somerhalder's Lost on-screen sister Maggie Grace was shown again during the ad breaks this time towards the end of Delete.

Resurrection:
Wow this turned out to be quite an episode.
The siege at the hospital was well done.
Tahmoh Penikett (Vincent) later appeared as Helo in Battlestar Galactica.
Bruce Harwood who was one of The Lone Gunmen in The X-Files and the spin-off of that name appears here but for some reason is not credited.
Adam appears but we don't see his face and TV.com doesn't even think that it was Ian Somerhalder who was there for that brief scene.

Crisis:
Another wow episode. That teaser was fantastic, starting off with Lana's call to Clark which turned out to be from the future.
No matter they do they could not prevent future events from happening.
Looks like this is the last we see of Adam.
Is this the beginning of the end for Lionel Luthor as it is revealed that he has terminal cancer hence the expertments with the serum.

Truth:
Chloe becomes a truth serum after inhaling kryto-gas. Could not believe what the first person (other than Clark) to come in contact with Chloe, Mrs Taylor had said about watching TV. Not to mentioned revealing that she is a fugitive from the law.
Just as Lionel seems finished when he unwillingly told Chloe the truth about his parents being killed by Morgan Edge so he could get the money to start his company, he manages to erase the voicemail that recorded his confession.
This episode really shows that the truth does hurt.

Memoria:
If there is a Smallville version of Doctor Who: Father's Day then this is probably it as it structured on such an emotional scale. In fact Doctor Who Executive Producer Julie Gardner is a Smallville fan.
Weird seeing Lionel with less beard in the flashback to Lex's childhood.
That song at the end was very sad but beautiful.
Was close to tears with this episode.
