| Last night on the Biography Channel, saw the documentary Lee Majors - Hollywood's Bionic Hero. It included an interview with Galactica creator Glen A. Larson. The reason why he was there is because he was the executive producer for two of Lee Majors' TV shows, The Men From Shiloh & in Majors' post-The Six Million Dollar Man series, The Fall Guy (which Larson had created). |

The 4400 is nearing the end of its second season 10. Perhaps BSG will replace it in its timeslot of Tuesdays 11:15pm.
This morning saw Michael Hogan (Colonel Tigh) in The L Word episode Lap Dance. Good timing since my uni sci club will be having a BSG screening tomorrow. |

Whenever 10 decides to show season 2, I am now further ahead of them as I saw episodes 7 and 8 last night at my uni sci fi club. All I can say about episode 8 for those who have not seen it is that fans of the original series are going to get a treat with this one.
You probably have noticed in bookshops the DVD & Video Guide by Mick Martin & Marsha Porter and it includes a review of the new Galactica series but there is a difference in the review for the 2005 and 2006 editions.
It is a new entry in its 2005 edition which says:
"Battlestar Galactica (2003) **1/2 In this sequel to the late 1970s television series, mankind is once again attacked by the robotic Cylons after a 40-year respite, leaving the survivors with one course of action: to attempt to return to a place they've only heard of called Earth. Despite some fine performances and solid improvements on the original concept, this two-part miniseries was shown on television in one night, which leads us to surmise that the Sci-Fi Channel gave up on the series before it was even given a chance. So what we're left with is an introduction to an epic journey that never takes place."
Apparently this was written before anyone knew there was going to be a full fledged series and in the 2006 edition it got a 3 1/2 star rating an addition of one star from the previous review. The review for 2006 is the same from the previous edition from "In this sequel..." to "...called Earth." After that the review says this:
"This Sci Fi Channel miniseries features fine performances and solid improvements on the original version. Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell lead a cast that seems to get better with each episode of the series, as do the stories as the characters develop. It helps that the Cylons pose a greater threat than before. No longer just slick-looking robots, they also have the ability to appear human, and there are duplicates throughout the various enclaves of humanity."
Notice how the word "some" is omitted in the 2006 review when describing the performances. They still descibed it as a sequel to the original which it is not and why did it take them a second review to praise Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell and the Cylons. What a difference a year makes. |

Yesterday at my uni sci fi club I saw the rest of season 2. A brief overview: episodes 10, 11 and 12 are definitely the ones you want to see especially the guest star. In fact throughout the season that are quite a surprise number of guest stars who probably is already well known to you.
The season ends on one cracker of an ending.
This is the first time that I have seen an entire season of Battlestar Galactica prior to it being shown on Australian TV.
In fact after the finishing watching it someone commented that there should be a Battlestar Galactica crossover with Doctor Who.
An hour and a half after finishing the season I saw the Family Guy episode Brian Goes Back to College on 7. The episode was timely since it was a spoof on The A-Team which included their recreation of the title sequence from that show. They even recreated the Cylon that usually appear in the aforementioned title sequence. |

There is still no sign of season 2 coming on 10. However the DVD release has been scheduled for Wednesday August 16 for people who have not yet seen it:

Any idea why they'd say that? |

The person who said that is a very big fan of both Doctor Who and the new Galactica. Hence why he would like to see a crossover between the two.
Meanwhile hours ago I saw the Buck Rogers episode A Dream of Jennifer which guest starred one of the cast from the original Galactica, Anne Lockhart (also the daughter of Lost In Space mum June Lockhart). I thought this is interesting to note because not only was Buck Rogers co-developed by Galactica creator Glen A. Larson but visually old Galactica & Buck Rogers looked very similar.
In any case, I was absolutely delighted to see her in Buck Rogers as it was a very nice surprise. |

Enjoyed Battlestar Galactica at the outset. I was a fan of the original. Cylons are a scary creation, shame we don`t see them as much in the remake series _ apart from their biological incarnations, though plot-wise that makes things more interesting. But I`ve grown a bit disillusioned with it lately. I won`t state examples in case they haven`t been screened yet, but though the production values and characterisations are more mature, there is still the American habit of writing to a formula; even if there are twists from time to time.
Lost is another series that I have had my concerns about. I came to this programme belatedly because the promotional material made it sound like a soap-opera. It gave no hint to it`s paranormal theme.
But have you noticed how it keeps moving from one mystery to another every few weeks whilst ignoring the previous mysteries ?
I read that the writers/producers have devised a way to keep it going till series four so to me that suggests if they do not get the viewing figures after series three (currently filming and due here in October) that will be the end of it, explanations or not. Conversely, if the viewing figures demand, then we will have series ten or more with few (if any) resolutions to previous questions that viewers will have. I hope that I am wrong about this and that it is a cohesive whole that has been written episodically, with the writers more interested in the idea/vision rather than a fat pay cheque, but I do wonder.
But then, on the other hand, it`s still not bad viewing to fill the gap between series` of Dr Who. And it might help us appreciate the puzzlement of those in the sixties who thought that the last episode of The Prisoner would answer all their questions, including the meaning of life.
( The best answer to that was in the Hitch-hikers` Guide: was it 32)? |

For those who are only seeing season 2 on 10, here is a heads-up about tonight's episode:
Pegasus was nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation Short Form but lost out to The Empty Child & The Doctor Dances. Now tonight you get to decide whether Pegasus is as good as those two Doctor Who episodes. (As someone who has already seen it, the answer is it definitely is that good.) |

Pegasus:
Some interesting things about this episode-
Michelle Forbes plays Admiral Cain. The character of Commander Cain was played in the original series two parter The Living Legend by Lloyd Bridges.
Michelle is well known to sci fi fans for her recurring role as Ensign and then Lieutenant Ro in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Here in BSG she plays an admiral. Quite a promotion.
Although not an episode she appeared herself but one of the TNG episode was also called Pegasus and it was written by BSG developer Ron Moore. Surprised that he did not write this BSG episode himself.
Most impressive of this episode comes towards the end with Adama and Cain about to have a face-off.
EDIT: Found this out from the TV.com note on the TNG episode:
"The name Pegasus for the lost ship is a reference to the "lost ship" on the original Battlestar Galactica. Writer Ronald D. Moore went on to make a new version of Battlestar Galactica and included a ship called Pegasus in it." |
