Omigosh, Utopia was fantastic, but I noticed one of my favourite Timelords was missing something.
THE MASTER DOESN'T HAVE A BEARD OF EVIL!!
(You know, the beard both of the Masters from the Classic series had)
I don't think it's the Master without the BOE. It was missing in the movie as well!
*wails melodramatically* Oh, it's a crime against humanity and all that's not human and all that's in between and all that's beyond!!!
What is this series coming to?
The doctor doesn't fit the criteria of the old Doctors (where they have blue eyes and are in no way sexy, at least christopher Eccleston had it right), the companions are all hot for the Doctor, and now the Master is without his BOE. What's next? Will they suddenly change the TARDIS into a Dimentionally Transcendental Sporrtscar!?!? Will he no longer fight aliens, but instead fight nasty neighbours and settle down in Ramsay Street?
What's with the romance with Doc and his companions? (Like Rose, who ruined the show with her "do me Doctor" attitude) I'd rather see the Krynoid than the Kleenex!!!!!
Okay, that's my rant, no matter howw off topic it became. What are your thoughts? |

If you thought the beard was the only thing missing from the Master wait till you see The Sound of Drums this weekend and you will notice another thing from the Master that is not there as well.
Honestly I don't miss the Beard of Evil. |

There have been several depictions of the Master on TV (Roger Delgado, the two version of the decayed Master, Anthony Ainley, the snake thing, Eric Roberts, Derek Jacobi and John Simm) - and only two have had a beard.
And none of them have ever twirled the moustache of evil! If they aren't going to descend to that level of inanity, facial hair is not required.
How do you feel about Simm's stubble of evil? |

That's alright, we've got the Face of BOE to compensate.
(Hmm, Jack with a Master beard... now that's a strange image)
Oh, and a lot of people actually do find Chris Eccleston sexy, you know. More than Tennant. It's this sort of raw appeal that he's got, or so they say.
And actually, I'd love to see Kleenex - evil tissues that take over the galaxy have got to be worth something. Of course, if they were in Doctor Who, it'd be a bunch of snot jokes, but if it was in Torchwood it'd be a bunch of jokes about masturbation, so take your pick over which would preferable. Personally, I hope they get a huge religious following - "Bless you!" - and the legends of the Great Handkerchief and Sneeze like in Hitchhiker's. |

| I don't mind the lack of BOE, but he seems a little too hyper (a bit like the 10th Doctor) as opposed to the quiet, scheming villain that I go for. |

| Beard Of Evil = BOE? What are you people thinking of... and can it be put in a big smoke-filled tank? |

Actually, i came up with the B.O.E abbreviation before the face of BOE ever came along.
and What's with the parallel between Face and Jack??
And i havn't seen any 'stubble of evil', he is clean shaven at the end of Utopia...
and evil tissues... *shakes head* actually, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. for the CLASSIC SERIES. new series, not so much.
And yes, he should be more scheming. i liked anthony Ainley. he was cool. the movie one was crap (that includes the snake thing) and i havn't seen the first one.
i don't know...
ya know, i think it's time for the Rani to come back too! |

| Actually, speaking of tissues and the TVM, that works perfectly as an explanation of the Master. After all, that snake looked like it was constructed out of snot, the TARDIS appearing to have an allergic reaction to landing in San Francisco. So the tissues were used by the Face of Boe, and because the Master's snot was on one of them, but one day disappeared, he realised that the Master was risen again. |

I miss the beard a little but in turth it wouldnt fit the show as it is now.
I do miss the tissue compression eliminator. That was very scary and the laser screwdriver is simply stupid when I imagine RTD choosing between them. What was he thinkning? |

| Speaking of the laser screwdriver, I find the upmanship between the sonic and laser in the New Series a bit disturbing. Are they comparing cocks? Is it a continuation of the theme established in 'The Doctor Dances'? The Doctor and the Master can be so juvenile sometimes... listening to pop music with shower-room mentality... |

I think it is intended to be geeks trying to out-geek each other, but Sigmund Freud would undoubtedly agree with your assessment. |

I don't think a beard is entirely nesessarry. And i like the way that the master's personality changes to fit the doctors. Now that the Doctor is bouncing around everywhere with a sense of Humor, the master does t to. It keeps them equal and on the same playign field. I still think that Delgado and Ainley are brilliant though.
It's good to see my favorite time lord back anyway!! |

I'm not a fan of the beard oddly enough.
Delgardo got away with it but frankly it just reminds me of the cliche'd mustache twirling villian.
After all Hannibal Lector doesnt have a beard and he gives me the willies.........
*Editors note- forget the "willies comment". |

The Master's beard (or lack thereof...) is discussed at goatee length* in the DWM Series Three Companion.
Director Colin Teague is quoted as saying that John Simm "was into having the goatee, actually'.
Russell T Davies says 'The beard was discussed at infinite length. It was on, it was off, John wanted it, then didn't, I didn't, then did - but in the end we decided that, in stripping everything down to basics, it just wasn't needed.'
* That is, not very long! |
