It is November 23 2008 and Doctor Who is 45.
It has been quite a year with this year's season of Doctor Who especially with the way it ended. To add to this came David Tennant's announcement quite recently that he's stepping down as the Doctor after the 2009 specials.
Whether it is intentional or not the Eighth Doctor Big Finish audio episode The Zygon Who Fell To Earth will soon be broadcast on BBC7. This marks the first time that a new broadcast episode of Doctor Who has been transmitted on Anniversary Day since the first episode of Silver Nemesis in 1988.
Big Finish in its regular releases celebrates the occasion with the release of the aptly titled Forty-Five-
From Wikipedia:
"As the play released at the forty-fifth anniversary of the first episode of Doctor Who, it is made of four one-part stories, by different authors, rather than the usual multi-part serial. All episodes will use the Seventh Doctor as played by Sylvester McCoy, Ace played by Sophie Aldred and Hex played by Philip Olivier."
Notwithstanding the spin-offs, Doctor Who on television is pretty lite for 2009 with just the specials before a full season comes back in 2010 with the Eleventh Doctor.
In the meantime, Happy Anniversary. |
